Our Art
Here, we train in an Okinawan style of karate called kobayashi Shorin Ryu. Our art is centered around taking an attacker’s balance away in order to control and ultimately put an end to the fight.
Dojo Kun (rules) and Affirmations
- Do what you’re told, not what you want
Be mindful of instructions you receive. Our bodies have habits and tendencies that we haven’t discovered yet. Be sure you are doing what you think you are doing. Also, make sure you follow directions to the best of your understanding, and don’t settle for whatever feels easiest at the moment.
I can accept help from those who are trying to help me.
- Control your body
Consciously direct your motions to see your intentions fulfilled. Perform techniques willfully and completely. Don’t allow yourself to be distracted.
I have the power to make good decisions.
- Use your manners
We are training in a combat art. Each student deserves to know that the person they partner with is attentive and respectful regarding teamwork and safety. The best way to insure that everyone receives such treatment is to behave in these ways ourselves. Also, I’ve never been attacked by someone who thought well of me!
I deserve to be treated well, and so does everyone else.
- Do your best
Karate, like most other things in life, is best learned through trial and error. Your best effort will always yield the best results. Basically, when you do your best, your best gets better!
There is nothing I can’t accomplish when I put my best foot forward.
